A partnership that has enhanced the mission and goals of ArtWorks for Youth like not other to date has been than the one with a program called Narrative 4.
Narrative 4 is an innovate, Chicago-based non-profit organization that uses personal narrative to bring people together. Students from different countries share a significant story of their life with a local or international partner. The pairs eventually meet then recount partner’s story as if it were their own.
ArtWorks for Youth students have participated in several story exchanges with volunteer students from New York City. Two ArtWorks for Youth students were also invited to take part in a Narrative 4 Summit for two summers in a row now and will head to Ireland for Narrative 4’s 2016 Summit. The purpose of the annual summit is to discuss exchanges that took place among the many schools and organizations during the past year and to shape the future of the program.
ArtWorks for Youth looks forward to an on-going relationship with Narrative 4 and is seeking ways to spread the wonders of story sharing in the Eastern Cape of South African and beyond. This initiative/effort is a natural extension of how we have used reading and writing, in addition to visual art, as a springboard for self-expression.
